AS13100 What’s New and How Significant is IT?
The Aerospace Engine Supplier Quality (AESQ committee under SAE) recently released AS13100, Quality Management System Requirements for Aero Engine Design and Production Organizations. Unsurprisingly, its release has become a hot topic in the aerospace and defense industry supply chain. There are three main reasons why this new standard is a game-changer to AS9100 certified organizations. The first, and likely the biggest reason, is that even though the title and the committee make it sound like it is for aerospace engine component manufacturers, the truth is it applies to all aerospace suppliers: “This standard establishes supplemental requirements for AS9100 and AS9145 and applies to any organization receiving it as part of a Purchase Order or other contractual document from a customer”. In other words, it can be invoked on any aerospace supplier as a Customer Specific contractual requirement.
